Breakfasts built to last
10/05/08 14:58
I got chatting with one of my colleagues this week
about her recent success with weight loss. She was
delighted to have shed several pounds and commented
that she felt this had come about because she had
started to eat breakfast on a regular basis, a meal
that she had previously skipped. Consequently she
felt more in control of her food intake and portion
sizes throughout the rest of the day (here is living
proof of a subject recently explored by Dr John
Briffa).
Others present in the office listened with interest and an impromptu discussion on what comprises a "healthy" breakfast ensued. Many breakfast options are carbohydrate loaded, particularly your average breakfast cereal followed by a slice of toast and marmalade. As a result, this combination is likely to disrupt blood sugar levels, a situation that may promote hunger and over eating later in the day.

Time for Planting!
16/03/08 18:32
Although we are by no means self sufficient, we have
been enjoying a small crop of fresh veg from the
patch at the bottom of our garden. The winter months
have left this patch looking a bit empty so I was
pleased to find that is was time to plant some leek,
cabbage and cauliflower seeds. I shall watch eagerly
for them to germinate and in due course plant them
out so that we can enjoy another harvest later in the
year. Read

Happy New Year !
31/12/07 16:35
The turn of a new year is the traditional time for
resolutions to change ourselves or our behaviour in
some way. Many people will resolve to lose weight,
especially after the Christmas feasting and start a
new diet. But sadly, many of these diets are doomed
to failure.
